AgriFoRwArdS is a collaboration between the Universities of Lincoln, Cambridge and East Anglia, and focuses on robotics within the agricultural sector. The Centre provides fully funded opportunities for students to undertake MSc and PhD study, to become the next leaders in the agri-food robotics community.
The Centre is committed to developing the next generation of experts in the agri-food robotics sector. It is looking for enthusiastic, talented students to join our 4-year programme in a vibrant and research-intensive environment.
AgriFoRwArdS focuses on the development of advanced RAS (Robotics and Autonomous Systems) technologies, which will advance the state-of-the-art in both the fundamental RAS science and the domain of agri-food. The main research areas of the CDT are: mobile autonomy; manipulation and soft robotics; sensing and perception; fleet management; human-robot collaboration. Other research areas include robot vision; robot learning; robotic mapping; robot task planning; Robot Navigation; Swarm Robotics; Systems Integration; agri-robotics; food manufacturing.
All of these topics may be applied to a diverse range of real-world challenges, from soil preparation, seeding, monitoring, scouting, weeding, spraying, selective harvesting and on-site grading, through to food processing, manufacturing and supply chain optimisation. Students might be intending their research to be applied in any agricultural domain, including crop management, food manufacturing, fisheries, plant science, and agricultural logistics.
This course listing pertains to the PhD stage of the CDT, and assumes that students are already members of the CDT and are completing the MSc at the University of Lincoln.
Continuing
Students applying for this course will need to be members of the AgriFoRwArds CDT. Students who have been allocated a Cambridge PhD supervisor will be accepted provided that they successfully pass the MSc at the University of Lincoln, and meet the University of Cambridge's minimum entrance requirements.
